Keeping home accounting is conventionally divided into several stages. Following each of them together will let you optimize the movement of finances in the family budget, thanks to which you can improve your financial situation or even reach a new, better level. The first stage can be considered the preparatory one. Here you get acquainted with keeping records. You choose the way records are kept – written or electronic – and the period for which reporting is kept. The optimal one for home accounting is a calendar month, because most regular income and expenses occur during this period. The next stage is income accounting. That is, you add up all the funds coming into the family budget from various sources. An important role here is played by the way accounting is kept, which can be:

separate – when all family members keep their own separate records of income and expenses;

partially joint – implies sharing obligations while keeping income records separately;

joint budget implies recording the income of all family members.

Then comes the most responsible stage. It includes financial planning of expenses. To make it more accurate you can use payment slips, receipts and checks for the past month. Relying on them, you create an approximate plan of the expenses that will have to be made during the planned period, namely the next month. The next stage is no less responsible than the previous one. This is recording expenses throughout the current month. You need to take into account all expenses made and enter them in the accounting reports. You can create two versions of the budget: planned and actual. When the month is over you need to analyse expenses, which is the final stage. If you use the Online home accounting server, this can be done automatically and you get a ready result. First of all, you need to analyse how the planned budget corresponds to the actual one. If discrepancies appear, find their causes and take them into account when drawing up the plan for the next month. It is important to note that income and expenses are divided into regular and seasonal. To do financial planning more accurately, you need to take regular financial receipts as a basis. It is best to form reserve or savings funds from seasonal or one-time income.
